The Hairdresser Saga

Judy posted a rant about her hairdresser which we can all relate too. I too had a hairdresser drama this week. Well maybe drama is a bit strong ... more like a moment. Several years ago I used to go to a lady named Juli who owned her own shop in small town a nearby. Well she got a divorce, lost her shop and disappeared for five years. Then this summer I ran into her at hospital. She told me she was working in a shop near my house. As some of you know I was having health problems this year, so a couple months ago having a good day and desperately needing a cut I thought I'd drop in since she told me the shop took walk -ins. She wasn't there but a young girl named Lulu cut my hair and did a great job. I loved the cut which happens to me about once in a decade. Now I have a problem. How do I let Lulu cut my hair without hurting Juli's feelings? Lulu told me the Juli doesn't come in until 10.30AM so I made yesterdays appointment for 9 AM. But couldn't help thinking Juli would come in early and catch me. Honesty is this stupid or what? This is just business why do I feel so guilty? But I have to say once again I was very pleased with the cut so I'll have keep sneaking in to see Lulu. LOL

New Frige,New Snow, New Pattern.

About eighteen months ago our old fridge died and thinking it's just me and DH here now we bought a smaller refrigerator without an ice make. Big mistake! No room for left overs ,no room for soft drinks, no room in the freezer,no ready ice! With all the kids and grand kids coming for Thanksgiving I told DH we have to get a bigger one with ice and water in the door. So bought this little number Friday and it was deliver yesterday. And I love it! The other one is now in the basement holding soft drinks.
We got our first snow yesterday. It didn't stay long but was coming down pretty hard for awhile. Always get excited when I see the first big flakes of the year.
And back to the drawing board with the airplane quilt. Found a new pattern the one on the right . It was easier and I like the look a lot better than the old one. So since I have most of the 'TO DO LIST" accomplished I'll start over with this new pattern tomorrow. The thirty some blocks I made with old pattern I'll give to a charity quilt organization.

Friday Flashback

Remember when you were in your thirties and forties and caught your self thinking or sounding like your mom? Well girls it gets worse . When you get into your fifties and sixties you began to think your mother-law could have been right once in a while. I know scary huh?
Back in the seventies and eighties when wall paper was very popular and I was wall papering everything that didn't move my DMIL told me she would NEVER wallpaper after scraping layers of wall paper and paint off ever wall in a house she bought. I thought "oh please it's not that hard" and loving the wallpaper so much I didn't really mind. No problem.
Well..... I'm 65 now and for the last year have been scraping wall paper off nearly every room in this house. And I HATE IT and you know I'm thinking....... NEVER AGAIN!!!! LOL
So here's some pictures of the dreaded job in the bath room. I think we'll paint(well I know we'll paint it) when I get done a light cocoa color. The other pictures are to show sis how we painted the entryway and of course two dogs because she loves to see pictures of them and complains I don't have them on here enough . Hee ,hee, hee.

Peanut Butter Pie

Two weeks ago I went to the Dentist to get a crown. While the Dentist was grinding my tooth down to a nub his assistant Shelly was telling me she'd made two peanut butter pies the night before and had given one to her in-laws. Later I mentioned to my sister Patty what a nice girl she was to do that. My sis who's an avid baker and always looking for new recipes response was"get her recipe" LOL
I said"you want me to call the office and say tell Shelly I need her peanut butter pie recipe?" Patty's response "yes". Well I waited until they called to remind me of my appointment Fri, and ask the receptionist if she would give Shelly the message. She laughed said" sure". So here's the recipe. I made the pie yesterday and it got good reviews from DH and grandson Nick. DH had two pieces last night which almost never happens.

Dawning of a New Era?

I hope so. This has been such an ugly campaign I've rec'd so many political hate emails I've been afraid to express my position for fear of losing all our friends. But now it's over and I hope we can all come together and work for a better world.
And just in case your curious I did vote for President Elect Obama. I truly think he's a good man and wants the best for our country. May god bless and guide him.

Some Up Dates

First- a fun project the pillow cases I made for Fox,Cece and Patrick. The fairy fabric was given to me by a friend and I immediately thought of Cece, she loves pink. I used the same pattern I used to make pillow cases for the troops.
Second- remember the little chair I got for my sis .Well it seems Peanut our cat has claimed it. He likes to sit on it like a little prince pondering his realm.
Third - I case your wondering we survived the cookies. They were fine. I thought they had lost a little flavor but the guys said they didn't think so.
Fourth- The dreaded TO DO LIST
clean closets-DONE
Really nice to have them clean. Got rid of a lot of old linens, clothes, shoes, cleaning products and unused or broken (some day planned to fix) Nick-knacks. I had to open the closets and peek in this morning just to admire their tidiness (smile)

The dreaded "TO DO LIST"

Being sick a lot for the last year I've got behind in a lot of things. And since we're expecting a house full of company for thanksgiving I thought I should do a little catching up. So... for the next two weeks I will put quilting aside and do some purging .

Clean out closets
Take old stuff to Salvation Army
Clean cupboards inside and out.
Straighten basement and haul some junk to the dump
Wash woodwork in big bathroom.
Wash down the hall doors
Damp mop hardwood floors.
Wash the windows

Yuk, I'm getting tired just thinking about it. Maybe instead I'll just go get the bag cookies curl up and finish reading the" Lace Reader"
