Flashback Friday, Last Halloween

Bought a couple boxes of these ready to bake cookies on sale the day after Halloween last year. They somehow got moved to the bottom of the freezer and forgot until last week. I was going to throw them out but my sis who is much more frugal than me said "Don't be silly they've been frozen all this time their fine" So..... I'm baking them tonight hopefully they will be fine.
Maybe I'll let DH and Nick try them first. Hee,hee ,hee , the witch cackled.

Best Laid Plans....

Well .... Lucas's quilt is not going to be done for Christmas. I sewed the blocks together with plain blue squares separating them . Yuk Did not like the look at all. So it's back to the drawing board. I'm thinking maybe some blue and beige plaid blocks. Anyway I took the blocks apart and here they are in a sad little pile on my sewing table. We're expecting a house full of out of town guest for Thanksgiving so I be putting it on the back burner for now. So I can get the house spruced up. Lucas might get it for Valentines Day if I can come up with a design I like .
In the mean time while I'm thinking I'll make several of these red work Christmas stockings.

Flashback Saturday ,And YesThey Could Dance.

Friday flashback a day late.
The photo is of my fathers family taken I'm guessing in about 1926 or 1927. My father is the handsome young man second from the left in the back. They were all farmers but grandma was a big city girl and knew how to turn out a well dressed family.
What does this have do with dance your probably thinking. Well we have to go to my mother's family for that . Mother came from a very large family eight girls and six boys. Five of mother's sisters were younger than her and still in their twenty's when my sister Patty, my cousin Gay and I were teenagers. We were their Barbie Dolls they liked to do our hair and tell us what to wear and not wear . When any of us had a new boyfriend their first questions were never the usual , "What does he do for a living?" "Does he come from a good family "," What religion is he ?" NO ,NEVER!!! We were ask the most important question of all. "Is he a good dresser and can he dance" LOL I know, probably not the best values to pass on to your nieces but it was what was important to them. And didn't seem to effect me to much DH is a good provider, but he has two lefty feet and thinks dressing up is putting on a clean pair of sweats.
I suppose they thought my Mother married well because my father's family were great dancers and dressers. Grandpa could do an Irish jig that made you dizzy. His legs would go like an egg beater. Even in their seventies grandma and grandpa went to the Monday night dances at the Wood Cliff south of town. Ever Monday morning grandma would be putting her hair up in pin curls, ironing their clothes, and mumbling that this week she wasn't going. But she always went.
The last time I saw grandpa he was dying of congestive heart failure but he jumped up and did a quick jig for us.
Sure wish I could see it one more time.

Ready for Halloween,? Almost......

Porch geese dressed for Halloween . I know their hokey but I like um. I wanted a red wagon to put my $1 pumpkins in but... local hardware didn't have a red wagon. Being too lazy to check more stores ....I settled for this child's plastic wheel barrow. I think it's cute. But needs something else maybe corn stalks, a bale of straw, more pumpkins? Any suggestions?

Frost on the Pumpkin.

We had a chilly night so I cranked up the fireplace this morning as you can see Buddy and Jack promptly flopped down by it. Buddy's trying to get as close as he can to Zack fluffy coat, It's good to have a big fluffy friend on a chilly morning. Speaking of Pumpkins I've always loved them. There's just something fetching about a big orange vegetable. Ohio is the nations leader in pumpkin production it's pumpkin Paradise here. A local farmer parks a truck full of them at the crossroads down the road. He charges $1 each for beautiful pumpkin.

Some Quilting

Remembering this is a quilting blog I thought I really should put something in about quilting. First the Airplane quilts for my seven year old grandson Lucas. I will be putting plain blue blocks between the Airplanes.
In the third photo are strips from a jellyroll I bought at the LQS. For me like all kits or pre-cut fabrics are always a disappointment. To me picking the fabrics is the creative challenge of quilting. But this jelly roll caught my eye because of the colors, But alas after I got it home I realized it's Christmas fabrics. Curses! Don't get me wrong I think Christmas quilts are beautiful but... I just don't feel like I get enough use out of them. So I think I'll just make it a throw and give it as a Christmas gift.

PLEASE,,,,,,,,,,

I said I wouldn't blog about politics and...this is really not about politics it's about some common good sense. I have to comment on this email I got this morning. This has to be the stupidest one yet. Click on it for better image so you can read it..
Now come on..... I've read Mein Kampf does that make me a Nazi ? I've read Rosemary's Baby does that make me a devil worshiper?
I've read the bible does that make me a saint? I think not.
Americans have to start using some good sense and stop listening to the hate mongers like Rush Limbaugh. Take the time to find out where the candidates actually stand . And stop believing and passing on ever ignorant thing that comes in the email .
Oh and by the way I've also read some of the Koran and guess what? I'm still a practicing Catholic. Amazing huh?

Another Before and After !

Two examples of before and after here. Our grandson Nick who is staying with us. The first photo is four years ago when he was a skinny little kid and had just joined the USAF .As you can see he's put on a few lbs( he likes to say pure muscele) (smile). And the other one I took the other day after his Lasik eye surgery. His eyes are still a little blood shot but he's so happy to have it done. Nick paid for the procedure him self with some of the 10k he managed to save while in the service. Pretty responsible for a twenty three year old I have to say.

Am I just snooty ?

Why does anyone watch TV shows like Maury, Cheaters, Wife Swap?
I think their trashy and they're embarrassing for the human race. Why people want to have their dirty laundry put out for millions of people to see is beyond me. Trash ! Yuk!

Pillows and Puppies

Christmas 2006 I made this quilt for granddaughter Christie. She told me that she's using it on a foo ton in her college dorm and ask if I had any fabric left over that she could make matching pillows for it. And of course I had extra fabric (always )So I whipped up three for her this week.
And of course I took more pictures of the guys(our little Jack Russells) Buddy and Jack.
