Thrift Store Finds!

A couple times a month I like to browse the thrift stores looking for interesting finds. But haven't been doing it much the last six months because life got in the way. But here's my latest finds. Battenberg lace curtains for my bedroom(finally got it painted). and this darling child's chair. I think I'll give it to sis for her birthday. In the mean time it sits in my dining room keeping Nick's shoes company. Grandson Nick just got out of the USAF he's staying with us for a few weeks then going to visit his mom and her family in Valencia Spain. For some reason he's decided my dinning room is the place for his shoes.Oh well at least the room is getting some use.LOL

Is it Just Me ?

Last night I was looking over the latest sale flyer from Jo Ann's. They had quilt kit featured in it. Most of their quilt patterns and kits. I find boring at best but this one I thought was just plan ugly. Perhaps it was the color combo or the prints they chose. But IMHO it was not quilt that would motivate anyone to buy. I wonder who designs their kits and patterns.

I know...I know....

When I started this blog I said I wasn't going to talk about illness or politics but here I go again.
As some of you know I've been having digestive problems for the past year and a half and lost 75 lb's . Yeah five more since I last reported. Dr's been doing all kinds of tests and found nothing until Tue when I had a endoscopy and Yes ! They found the problem! I know it sounds crazy being happy I have a problem but at least I know whats wrong. They found Adult Pyloric Stenosis. Dr. used a balloon thingy to stretch it open. Hopefully this will work or I'll have to have surgery. Not a happy prospect but at least I know what the problem is.

Some Different.

Mostly I sew quilts with an occasional tree skirt, table runner , or pillow case, But decided to make some aprons last week. This is a really simple pattern but fun. The close up is the cute buttons I found to go with the chicken and cow fabric.

The hand crocheted tablecloth underneath them is my DMIL's that my DSIL gave me after her death last year. It was so yellowed with age DSIL and I were not sure we could get it white again. But I soaked it in Tide and Clorox #2. Then washed it on the gentle cycle and line dried it. It came out crispy white and not a bit of damage. I cherish it.

Birthday Boy and a Veteran

Grandson Will's birthday party picnic was at the metro park yesterday. Dumbie me forgot my camera but here's a picture of him and his girl friend taken a few weeks ago. The girl in the car behind them covering her face is Granddaughter Jena. I've always called Will, Prince William but decided that might be embarrassing in front of his girl friend so addressed his B-day card to just Will this year. Will is a very sweet polite boy.
Second picture is Nick he's back from four years in the Air Force. He's staying here for a couple weeks then visiting his mom and her family Spain. Then coming back to attend college here, This picture was taken right after Nick joined the USAF I'll post a more resent one later he was a skinny 18 year old here now he's a 23 year old Military Vet. (smile)

Rant

Kids.. grrrr. Our #3 son Brent wanted to plan a family vacation next summer . I loved the idea We decided on Cap Cod because most of us have always wanted to visit the area. Everyone was up for it but one son who flatly refuses to go stating the whole idea is "stupid". I have no explanation for this except he's our over achiever and it wasn't his idea and that makes it stupid. Would really like the whole family to be there but guess there's nothing I can do to make it happen. Upsetting my stomach maybe this ranting will help. Thanks for listening.

Actually Doing Some Quilting

Actually getting some quilting done. Finally put the binding on the Red Work quilt it will be a Christmas gift for the adorable little girl that was the flower girl at Ian's wedding. The blue and white Shoo-Fly for my bedroom is finished and on my bed as we speak. (now just to get the room painted) And finally put the binding on the purple, cream and green Turning Twenty quilt. It will be a Christmas gift also. Can't say I cared much for the turning twenty pattern. I felt like I was just sewing together big slabs of fabric but I will say the colors compliment each other nicely .
